About Mavenity
maven; noun: trusted expert in a particular field, who seeks to pass knowledge on to others; intense gatherers of information and impressions, and so are often the first to pick up on new or nascent trends.
Maven is a moniker I adopted after reading Malcolm Gladwell’s The Tipping Point (I am also part Connector), as “eager to share information with people” pretty much describes me to a t. Previously, I blogged under a narrow topic (British & European entertainment), but found it too restrictive. Mavenity is all about, well, anything and everything!
The most common topics you’ll find here are
- Food, body issues, fitness & weight loss
- Feminism/contemporary women’s issues
- Reality TV recaps and commentary, especially British shows
- Eurovision
- British/European pop music
- U.S. education policy and topical discussions
- “Millennial” topics, including but not limited to discussions of parenting, education and media
- Film & TV reviews
- Other topical social commentary
The goal is to keep it interesting, entertain myself (because I love writing tl;dr posts), and hopefully talk about some topics that others (and not just my friends) find interesting. The elder Millennials (those who are currently aged 26-29) face unique challenges, and I think I do, in many ways, represent that segment. I also like to comment on my younger, sometimes irritatingly self-absorbed generational cohorts.
Mavenity is always evolving, with the prevalence of certain topics shifting as my life does. Some periods may see heavy TV & music posts, while others (including recently) it’s all about social commentary, and (hopefully witty) weight loss rants.
Mavenity on WordPress is for long-form ramblings and detailed thinky-thoughts. There is also a Tumblr – http://mavenity.tumblr.com/ – for the random videos, links and photos that don’t warrant long posts, and for all my Eurovision blather (titled American Eurovisionary): http://eurovisionary.tumblr.com/.
